Welcome to the Jewelry Designer Network ... JewelryNetwork.org

Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial on setting a flat faced cab? I have 3 gorgeous lapis (2 oval, 1 rectangle) that I would like to make into pendants.

TIA,
Steph

Hi again Steph..

We keep running into each other !

Say, being a flat faced stone really should not be any different than any other.. More so as long as there is enough height to the stone. So long as your not talking about bending bezel tape over the top of your flat stone, your going to want your bezel tape to simply be able and push up against the stone..

If the stone is really thin.. Thinner than the tape your working with, I would suggest after joining the ends of the tape together and prior to soldering to a backing, and the joined bezel tape with sand paper on a flat surface until it is short enough that you don't have to bend it in any way over the top of the stone.... Whew..... that was a long sentence !

We have quite a few tutorials, and some with video on our forum you just joined. Then here just happens to be a tutorial that is using a flat faced stone in it.. With that one, I am not sure about liking the idea of filing a notch in the corners..

For me, it comes back to the same thing..Making the bezel tape the right height so it simply takes the corner nicely.. Then again, that too depends.. The stone needs to be a good height at the corners as it is along the sides..

Hope that makes sense...
