Hi Amy,

Make sure you have as little solder as possible in your scrap. Will you be casting it into an ingot or for casting into a mold? I have little luck melting filings and usually send those to the refiner. The filing often have all sorts of contaminants and it is not always easy to remove them.
Best,
Fred
Melt it with a reducing flame so as not to allow the silver to absorb oxygen and become porous. Silver has an affinity to oxygen. Flux it well and I melt small amounts in an open dish crucible.

Hello all. I look forward to sharing and knowing everyone here. Metal is my passion and my specialty is forging, raising and repousse with chasing.

Hello! Just joined the network and have an interest in learning about forming metals. I always have so many ideas, but hate that I can't do them myself, so hopefully I can learn. I am just learning everything and it is a lot of fun!
