Work Area Improvements

The Jewelry Work Area Improvements group is for discussing methods to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your jewelry work bench. Your work bench is where you create your magic ... Share your tips ...

ManicButterfly has thought of a great idea. The idea was to create a location on the Jewelry Network for members to post images of their work benches.

The jewelry designers work station is a very important facet of the designers life. Some designers are very proud of their work bench and others may find their work area to be a dreaded pitt of dispair. In this group, we want to share with each other the good and the bad.

The fact of the matter is that designers spend a great deal of time in their work area.

Please use this group to post an image of your own work station.

You can write comments regarding what you like and what you dislike about your work area?

Lets explore each others work station...

I know what you mean Dina! I've been packing and moving for the last month, and waited to do the workbench last. I had been in the middle of three or four projects, all of which the supplies were scattered on the bead board, desktop, and everywhere. I ended up dumping it all in baggies just to get it packed up, until my new 'studio' is ready in the new place. But it will be so nice to have all that extra room, AND start out organized. Plus I'll have a heated garage to start learning some welding and other projects I've been wanting to get around to.

deb, how about orgainizing by color or stone and color. I know if it isn't like that to be begin with It will be a huge job, but you will be able to find them. I also look though them all to remind me what I have every once in a while. Its just never ending.... coordinting it all. Good luck. Let me know what you figure out....Oh also if you have drawers you should try filing the boxes instead of stacking them....yes? juli

Hey you guys, I am looking for a way to organize my stash of beads and findings other than stackable plastic boxes. I have a metal 6 drawer chest thats a nice size. About 11" wide x 16" in depth x 30" high (not exact). It's a great size and I think I'd need about 6 of them. I found them at Ikea. But... before I buy any more, I wanted to see if anyone had any better ideas for storage. With those plastic boxes you have to move one to get to another so you end up having them everywhere and in total chaos! Thanks for replying to this I'd really like to find a smart way to organize and stay organized - if that's possible!

Since all my work has been in my shop from where I cut stones, I have just been making jewelry for a couple of months and my work area shows it !
Not a lot going on just yet. Lots of things on the wish list.
I have been doing all my designing and soldering from here.
I am like ManicButterfly in that I do no like anyone near my work areas. Except for my cat ! She is the exception.
Any hooo.... My work bench is still work in progress....

So, 2009 I swore I would try to be more organized [and loose weight, eat better blah blah blah] and let me tell ya, cleaning my work space is a huge project. I've been organizing it for 3 days now and I'm close to being done. Everything would get pushed to one side... then I didn't like it, so it went back to the other side... boy oh boy. But, here is the positive point about this... I found beads that I haven't seen in awhile and it sparked me creatively all over again. That might be a great idea when you get creatively blocked?

In answer to your question Michelle-I get SUPER nervous when anyone goes NEAR my work area-mainly my boyfriend-not to mention my nosy cat!! I usually lay something on top of my work area to keep the cat from jumping up on it and playing around with anything that might be loose laying around there. Then there's the boyfriend, who I have to keep a constant eye on-he goes looking around for the nearest, 'most convenient' pair of pliers or scissors, or whatever he thinks he needs to fix something-I've had to replace them a couple times after discovering they were marked up and unuseable for wire-or anything else for that matter after he got his hands on them !! LOL

I took some pictures of my work space. I'll put them in tomorrow. kind of a mess cause I sit down when I can, so I leave things until I can get back to them.

You know this is my project for this weekend... getting my studio working better for me... and making room for my growth. I will take pics of my finished studio once it is all reorganized :)
