This group is for anyone who is interested in forming metals into interesting shapes. The shapes are generally created by using hand tools and traditional jewelry techniques.

Hi there, just read your post, and I have to agree that if you don't take any risks you'll never move forward. If you liken working with metal to cooking you realise that some of the best results occur when you experiment, and you wouldn't want to...

The pewter looks great! It looks like silver in the ring - and almost transparent with the green wrap. Very fun pieces!! : )

Thank you so much! The large scale pieces are what I love to do most. I noticed you recently posted more images of your work. I really like the very first one! Both the jewelry and the image are beautiful!! What is the material in the jewelry?

Profile Information

About Me
I design and make contemporary jewellery. I also make flatware and larger tableware, but my studio is not really set up for silversmithing these days. Jewellery is my true passion.
How many years have you been designing jewelry?
I have been designing jewellery for many years. I've always had loads of ideas for pieces, long before I thought about making them. It never really occurred to me that I could get someone else to make them for me. Even now I make the majority of my designs myself.
Often the 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional designs are markedly different from each other. Only when I'm working to commission do I feel the need to realise the design as it is on paper. I usually prefer to let the materials themselves have an input in to the final result.
What is your favorite jewelry website?
http://www.linniemclarty.com
What is your favorite jewelry store?
I like intimate, boutique stores, where you feel a sense of expectation and excitement as you walk through the door.
There's a great store in Camden Passage, who's name escapes me, and Jewel Thief in Brighton,
Did you go to school to learn jewelry design?
Yes I did. First time around I got my degree in Fine Art, so I've always had the drawing bug. Then I went back to Uni to learn jewellery designing & making.

It's a totally different way of working. After years of gestural, emotional work having to go back and work in a way that was the antithesis of that was quite odd. I had to un-learn a lot of things. I had a fantastic tutor who taught me a lot.
Do you have a favorite jewelry designer (other then yourself...)
I find it impossible to pin down a single jewellery designer as my favourite, There is a wealth of talent in the jewellery world. We are so lucky to be able to witness it. Exciting stuff!
