Taking professional looking photos of your jewelry

I've noticed quite a few people saying they're having a hard time taking good photos of their jewelry. I found this article on hhhenterprises on how to make a light box-which can help you produce more professional looking pictures.

This is the link, if it doesn't work let me know and I'll email it to you:

I made a lightbox myself, but due to space restrictions I found an easier way to get basically the same results. I do the same thing, only without the box. I place the white posterboard on my table, curved upwards (you have to prop it up against something and brace the bottom) I then place one of my lights on each side, facing the center of the posterboard where the items to be photographed will be. I put one or two pieces of tissue paper over each light to get the muted effect. I also sometimes include a lamp over the top, depending on the item and how much light I want. It's basically the same as the box, but take the box away, and cover the lights with the tissue paper!

Just thought I'd share that with you all since it works pretty well for me :D

Yea that definitely wouldn't be good to use the tissue on halogens lol. From what I've read you reduce glare by moving the light further away from the subject. You could also try a lower watt bulb, or different type of bulb, along with another small light on the side or front. I've also found that the light doesn't have to be directed straight at the piece, sometimes it works if you aim it slightly off-center. :D

That's a good picture-I like the light the lightbox produces-maybe not quite as good as professional photos, but close. I think it shows truer colors.

That's cool. I might try that with my thicker wire wrapped pieces because the scanner doesn't scan them very well. But, I love how easy it is and how nice the pics turn out from scanning. Thanks for the tips, it's very much appreciated.
