Since I'm addicted to wire right now, I'm having a really hard time storing it and it's all over the place. So, I was looking around and found an empty DVD storage container. If you buy a large quantity of CD's or DVD's, they come in a plastic, round container with a plastic dowel in the middle. I put all of my wire that is not spooled up, around the dowel. The cool thing too with this idea is, it has a cover or lid. What do you guys do to store your wire?

I put mine in Large plastic ziplock baggies. It helps to keep it from tarnishing, especially with the addition of thos silica gel packets that come with shoes & other miscellaneous items (suchi seaweed for example).
I also use my Mother's silver storage bags even though her silver bowls, gravy boats etc are long gone.
Goos luck

Do you have a picture of what that looks like? If so, would you post it? I can't picture in my head how the wire would stay put. I still store my un-spooled wire in the bag that it comes in and have tried different storage options, but nothing seems to be the perfect solution. So I would be open to any new ideas. Thanks.

Well since I have pounds and pounds of it it seems... I have a large tool chest... the kind for your garage... I keep my sterling and gold filled on one drawer(all gauges each in a bag of their own, so I can find it easy and keep it from tarnishing as fast), and then a bigger drawer has all my brass and copper spools. This actually keeps all my metal... it;s great, because it has wheels too... and lots of shallow long drawers, perfect for metal sheet as well :)

Hmm, great ideas. I have a tool box that I keep my clay bead making "stuff" in, and the tool boxes with just the multi-size drawers (3 of those)-for beads; but a tool box just for wire is a good one. Maybe I'll add that to my husbands Honey-Get List, so as to get a really nice one. Thanks for the ideas.

For storing silver & gf wire I use an accordian file folder with a flap. Each wire gauge has it's own section...I keep the coils in plastic bags in the file slots. The tabs are marked with the gauges.

My spool wire (copper & brass) are stored in bins.

Wow you guys all have some really good ideas!! I don't have massive quantities of wire yet, but once I do-as I'm sure will happen at some point in the future-I'll keep these in mind :D
